The details that make a book can be very small. In 'The Married Portrait ' by Maggie O'Farrell there are tiny clues that point towards the final path of the story, but the author mentions them as if they were a beauty mark on the face of a secondary character. I still can't stop thinking about that beauty mark. When the dots connect at the end of the book and the plot closes, they land like a clean sheet on the mattress.

My favorite ones are:
  • The paintings under the paintings
  • The color of the duchess's hair
  • The two-headed monster
Her book 'Hamnet ' moved me more deeply, but this one awakened a wild animal that was hibernating deep in my chest.
